What is the plot or purpose of the game Temple Run?

Temple Run is an endless running adventure game where the protagonist, an intrepid explorer, finds a precious idol in an ancient temple and is chased by demonic monkeys as punishment for taking it. The purpose of the game is to run as far and as fast as possible while avoiding a multitude of obstacles such as gaps, fire traps, trees, and other hazards. Along the way, the player can collect coins, power-ups, and unlock new characters or abilities to aid in their escape. All of these elements combine to create a high-speed chase of survival where the ultimate goal is to achieve the highest possible score by running the longest distance without being caught or succumbing to the dangers of the treacherous path that lies ahead.
