What is GTA Online and how does it work?

"GTA Online" is the dynamic and persistent online universe for multiple players that is included with "Grand Theft Auto V." Although it launched soon after the original game's release in 2013, it has continued to evolve with regular updates from its developer, Rockstar Games. Players create a character and embark on a crime-infused journey through the sprawling open world of Los Santos and Blaine County, engaging in activities ranging from cooperative missions, competitive modes, to various forms of leisure activities such as races and sports.
