Can PlayStation 5 (PS5) users play Grand Theft Auto Online with PlayStation 4 (PS4) players?

As of the last update prior to March 2023, PlayStation 5 (PS5) users cannot play Grand Theft Auto Online with PlayStation 4 (PS4) players. Grand Theft Auto Online operates on different servers for PS5 and PS4, meaning there is no cross-generation play between these two console versions. Players who wish to play together must be on the same generation of consoles. Rockstar Games has not provided any feature that allows for cross-play or cross-generation support in this case, therefore PS5 players can only join other PS5 players, and PS4 users can only play with their fellow PS4 gamers.
